About math symbols
These are the math signs people reach for most often outside of equation editors: arithmetic (± × ÷), comparison (≠ ≈ ≤ ≥), calculus and algebra (∑ ∏ ∫ ∂ √ ∞), set theory and logic (∈ ∉ ⊂ ∩ ∪ ∀ ∃ ¬), and a few everyday extras like °, ‰ and the common fractions ½ ¼ ¾.
They come from Latin-1 and Unicode’s Mathematical Operators block, so they’re widely supported and safe for homework chats, spreadsheets, product specs and notes. For full formulas, a real math editor is still best; for a quick “≈ 20 min” or “5 × 5”, copying the right symbol beats typing the letter x.

How do I type the multiplication sign ×?
Copy × above. It’s a different character from the letter x and reads correctly in formulas and dimensions like 3 × 4.
What’s the difference between ∆ and Δ?
∆ is the math increment sign and Δ is the Greek capital delta. They look alike, but software may treat them as different characters.
Can I write exponents here?
