About currency symbols
Unicode has a dedicated Currency Symbols block, and new signs are added as countries adopt them. The familiar ones — $ € £ ¥ ¢ — are supported everywhere. Newer signs such as the Indian rupee ₹, Turkish lira ₺ and bitcoin ₿ are widely supported on current devices but may be missing on older ones.
Use the right sign rather than a letter abbreviation when space is tight: price tags, menus, travel budgets and marketplace listings. Some signs share a shape across currencies — ¥ is used for both the Japanese yen and the Chinese yuan, and $ for many dollars and pesos — so add a currency code when it matters.
