How superscript works
Unicode includes raised versions of every digit, the math signs + − = ( ), and most letters. They exist for phonetics and mathematics, and they’re what lets you write x² or 1ˢᵗ in a place with no formatting, like a chat, a spreadsheet cell or a bio.
The three modes cover the common jobs. Whole text raises everything, the look many people call tiny text. Exponents raises only what follows a caret: write x^2, 10^-3, or group a longer power in parentheses or braces, like e^(n+1) or 2^{10}. Ordinals raises st, nd, rd and th after numbers and turns TM and SM into ᵀᴹ and ˢᴹ.
Some characters simply have no superscript form: q is missing entirely, and capitals C, F, S, X, Y and Z fall back to lowercase. Anything that can’t be raised is listed under the result. The keypad below copies single characters, useful when you only need one ² or ⁿ.

How do I type an exponent like x²?
Choose the Exponents mode and write the power after a caret: x^2, 10^-3 or e^(n+1). Only the part after ^ is raised, so x^2 becomes x².
Which characters have a superscript form?
All digits, + − = ( ), and most letters. Unicode has no superscript q, and capitals C, F, S, X, Y and Z fall back to their lowercase forms. The tool tells you which characters it couldn’t raise.
Can I write ordinals like 1st and 2nd?

Are these real superscripts?
They’re Unicode superscript characters, which work anywhere text does. In documents and code, the editor’s own superscript formatting is better for accessibility.
