How calligraphy text works
Real calligraphy comes from the pen: thick downstrokes, thin upstrokes, and a rhythm that changes with the writer. Unicode can’t reproduce that, but its two script alphabets get surprisingly close for short, formal text. Mathematical Script is fine and airy; Mathematical Bold Script is heavier and more regular.
The Pen switch chooses between them for every card. Copperplate always pairs bold capitals with fine lowercase, like the contrast of a pointed pen. Invitation sets text in Title Case with extra letter spacing — the way names are printed on a wedding card. Signature wraps your name in soft tildes, and Monogram reduces it to initials: “Grace Allen” becomes 𝓖 ⋅ 𝓐.
Flourishes add ornaments around the line: ❦ floral hearts, ⊱ scroll brackets ⊰, a ❧ leaf, or thin rules. Keep formal text short. Script capitals are elaborate, and a full paragraph becomes hard to read on a small screen — one name, one line or one date is where calligraphy text looks its best.
About compatibility: Script letters display on almost every modern device. A handful of light-script letters come from an older block and may look slightly different in some fonts.

How do I make a monogram?
Type the names — for example “Grace Allen” — and look at the Monogram card. It keeps the first letter of each word as a bold script capital: 𝓖 ⋅ 𝓐.
What’s the difference between fine and broad pen?
Fine pen uses Unicode’s regular Mathematical Script letters, which look light and airy. Broad pen switches to Bold Script, which is heavier, more even, and includes digits.
How is this different from the cursive generator?
The cursive generator lists every script and italic style side by side. This page is built for formal uses: invitation spacing, signatures, monograms and flourishes around the text.
Can I use it on printed invitations?
For print, a real calligraphy font or hand lettering will look better and more consistent. This tool is best for digital invitations, messages, bios and quick previews.
