About hearts symbols
Hearts are some of the oldest symbols in Unicode. The card-suit hearts ♥ and ♡ come from the Miscellaneous Symbols block, and the heavier ❤, ❥ and ❣ come from Dingbats, a set based on classic printer’s ornaments. The floral hearts ❦ and ❧, known as hedera, were used by typesetters as paragraph decorations long before computers.
Because they’re text symbols, hearts take on the color of the text around them — except where an app decides to show an emoji version instead, which mostly happens with ❤ and ❣.
