What these graffiti styles are
Let’s be straight about it: graffiti is an art form of hand-drawn letters, and no text generator can recreate a real piece. What Unicode can do is swap your letters for its loudest characters, and several of them share graffiti’s DNA — puffy outlines, solid blocks and heavy, cut-edged strokes.
Black Bubbles and Bubbles evoke round throw-up letters. Black Blocks and Blocks give you stencil-like capitals, each letter boxed on its own. Blackletter Tag uses bold Fraktur, the old-world script that tattoo and street lettering still borrow from, and Heavy Sans is the plain, punchy option that reads everywhere. Handstyle Script uses bold script for a quick, signature-like tag.
Tag flair adds framing symbols — 彡 speed lines, ⚡ bolts, ★ stars, 【 】 boxes or 乂 crosses — and the Look chips filter by style. UPPERCASE is on by default because the bubble and block alphabets only exist as capitals. Keep tags short; one or two words hit hardest.
Heads up: Black bubbles and blocks come from a newer Unicode block and may show as boxes on older phones.
Frequently asked questions
Can Unicode make real graffiti lettering?
No. Real graffiti uses hand-drawn outlines, fills, drips and 3D shading. Unicode can only swap letters for existing characters, so these styles borrow the boldest, blockiest ones — bubble letters, black blocks and heavy blackletter — to suggest the vibe.
Why is UPPERCASE the default?
Tags and throw-ups are almost always written in capitals, and the black bubble and block alphabets only exist as capitals anyway.
Where can I use these styles?
Captions, bios, display names and group chats. For a logo, flyer or mural sketch, use a real graffiti font or draw it yourself.
Why do some blocks show in color?
The squared letters A, B, O and P are also emoji, so some phones color them. Black Bubbles avoids that.
