About text effects
Glitch, cursed, Zalgo and creepy text work by stacking combining marks — accents with no letter of their own — above, through and below each character. Flip effects swap letters for look-alikes that appear rotated or mirrored, and vaporwave text switches to full-width forms.
Every effect is generated in your browser, and the seeded effects stay stable while you type, so adding a word never scrambles the part you already liked.
Frequently asked questions
Why does glitch text take up so many characters?
Every mark stacked on a letter is its own character. A ten-letter word with heavy glitch can become a hundred characters or more, which matters in fields with length limits.
Will effects show up on every device?
Combining marks are widely supported, but apps draw them differently: some clip tall stacks, and a few strip marks from names entirely. Flipped and mirrored letters use look-alike characters that nearly every phone can display.
Are these effects accessible?
Screen readers often read marks or look-alike letters aloud one by one, so keep effects for decoration and write important information in plain text.
